Dataset contains fluorescence and absorbance spectra, fluorescence intensity timetraces and potentiometry results for ion-selective membranes containing Nile Blue(NB) cation released in respone to primary ion trigger. Nile Blue comes from a custom ion-exchanger: Nile Blue tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate
The paper reports on a novel ion-exchanger salt that can be used to monitor conditioning of the membrane. The response of non-conditioned membrane can also be used as a source of analytical signal. The release of NB cation from potassium or calcium selective membranes is monitored by observing the fluorescence and absorbance spectra of the analyte solutions or the membranes. The selecvitity of potassium/calcium selective membrane towards NB and NaCl against primary ions is also observed in potentiometry experiments. We demonstrate that the speed of release of the NB+ depends on concentration of the analyte, the membrane is more selective towards NB+ than Na+ and the system is utilized to assess potassium content of analytical grade CaCl2 salt.
