This dataset is composed of two files:
1) The XLSX file contains a table with a list and description of the Greek epigraphic evidence attesting to the presence, activity, and agency of women in ancient Northwestern Greece (primarily Bouthrotos, Dodona, and Phoinike).
The inscription types include: manumissions, oracular questions, sale contracts, honorary decrees, votives, and funerary stelae.
Each entry contains:
- the inscription's bibliographic reference/corpus
- the name of the woman in question
- her family relations and origin (if known)
- type of inscription
- date of inscription
- location of inscription
- additional relevant information
2) The .txt file contains the bibliography referenced in the XLSX file.
The contents of the dataset were analysed in the article "Juxtaposing formats: Studying northwestern Greek women through formal and personal inscriptions" (Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies, 2026, qbag004). The dataset and the article are among the results of the NCN SONATINA project "A feminine North: The portrait of Greek women in Epirus, Illyria, and Thessaly during the Late Classical and Hellenistic periods" (2022/44/C/HS3/00153).
