KINGPOL is a relational database of manufacturing enterprises and associated individuals in the Kingdom of Poland (Congress Poland), the westernmost part of the Russian Empire, covering the period 1904–1911. It was constructed on the basis of the Address Book of Factory Industry in the Kingdom of Poland (Księga adresowa przemysłu fabrycznego w Królestwie Polskiem), a private serial publication edited by Leon Jeziorański and issued under the patronage of the Warsaw Association of Technicians in eight editions between 1904 and 1911.
The database integrates two types of records that are typically developed separately: an enterprise database and a prosopographical one. The enterprise component contains data on 13,468 unique industrial companies, including information on production value (in Russian rubles), employment, industry classification, and regional location (governorate). To address the intermittent nature of voluntary reporting in the source, a longitudinal panel structure was constructed using forward-filling and back-filling techniques, enabling flexible aggregation of company-level statistics for individual years or multi-year periods between 1904 and 1911. The prosopographical component comprises an index of 21,089 entities — both physical and legal persons — linked to companies in the database through explicitly coded roles (owner, president, board member, namesake, and others). Entity records have been disambiguated and, where possible, matched to the Wielcy.pl genealogical database (Minakowski 2019), which incorporates biographies from the Polski Słownik Biograficzny (Polish Biographical Dictionary) and family tree data of deputies to the Great Sejm of 1788–1792. This linkage enables identification of individuals' biographical characteristics and their position within Polish elite networks.
The combination of firm-level economic indicators with prosopographical records allows for the reconstruction of ownership-management networks and provides granular estimates of the economic assets of major members of the industrial bourgeoisie of the Kingdom of Poland at the turn of the twentieth century. KINGPOL complements and partially overlaps with Thomas C. Owen's RUSCORP database of Russian imperial corporations, while offering a distinct advantage in capturing the operational reality of the industrial sector, including data on production value and technical personnel that are absent from centrally administered imperial sources.
