Description

This research data set is derived from the publication: Lewandowska, Julia, “Saint Anne The Teacher: Women’s Literacy, Sainthood and Biblical Memory in the post-Tridentine Spain”, in: Thaúmata: critical and underrepresented perspectives on hagiography and hagiographic studies, ed. Aitor Boada Benito. Leiden: Brill, 2025, pp. 227-255. 

The data set includes transcriptions in Spanish and translation into English of selected source material:

Biblioteca Nacional Española, Spain, Pinelo, Valentina, Libro de las Alabanças y Excel­encias de la Gloriosa Santa Anna, Sevilla: por Clemente Hidalgo, 1601. 

And images representing the paintings and sculptural grups of Saint Anne teaching Mary to read from the early modern Spanish, Italian and German contexts. Also there are representations of Saint Anne and Saint Anne Triplex.
