Introduction: Plasmids contribute to bacterial adaptation by carrying accessory genes and horizontal gene transfer. The genus Flavobacterium (Bacteroidota, Flavobacteriaceae) includes species inhabiting a wide range of habitats, from soils and freshwater to polar environments. This dataset accompanies a study in which all publicly available plasmid sequences from the genus Flavobacterium were collected and systematically characterized. Additionally two previously undescribed plasmids derived from soil isolates from Antarctica were sequenced and analyzed.
Methods: Plasmid data were obtained from the NCBI GenBank database via automated database searching and filtered to remove duplicates, which were grouped into clusters as a result of all-for-all analysis. Representative plasmid sequence from each cluster was re-annotated, and this set was analyzed using comparative genomics and proteomics.
Contents of this repository: The dataset is divided into numbered archives, each of which corresponds to a single step in the process:
Antarctica, horizontal gene transfer, plasmid, Flavobacterium
